HIT THE GROUND RUNNING: FRANCISCA AND THE FORGOTTEN FAST FACTS

Synopsis: Two girls—one dead, one alive—are trapped in the Land of the Forgotten and must confront repressed memories to escape.

Category: Novel

Genre: YA-supernatural, LGBT

Status: formatting and layout

Fun Fact: The first iteration of this story was a poem called “The Orange Tree We Never Climb”, which is also the title of the first chapter!

When can I read it?: You can read the first chapter here!

My current plan is for Francisca and the Forgotten to be my first experiment in self-publishing. I know I want a Dia de los Muertos release date, but I’m still feeling out the layout process as well as learning what needs to be done on the marketing end. I’d love to have it out in late 2024, but 2025 might be more realistic.

One sentence just isn’t enough! PLEASE give me a longer synopsis!

We all have memories we’d rather forget, but who are we without them?

Sensitive Francisca Muerta and strong-willed Francisca Viva are mirror images of grief, separated by a century. Muerta has lost her family; Viva longs for her absent mother and feels unloved by a father who doesn’t accept her transgender identity. When Muerta’s ghost makes contact with Viva, their fates are entwined.

Together, the girls are trapped in the Land of the Forgotten, a liminal space between the Land of the Living and the mythical Land of the Dead. To get where they belong, they must confront repressed memories—parts of themselves they tried to forget.

But they are not alone . . .

Francisca and the Forgotten is a life-affirming novel by a suicide survivor where horror is always balanced by hope. Teens who have grown out of Coco and Coraline will appreciate this darker take on the Dia de los Muertos mythos and the mothers who haunt us.

Join Muerta and Viva on their journey through the haunted house of memory and dare to ask yourself: what have you forgotten?
